When you talk about making remixes with “pen, scissors, and paper” what did you mean by that?

    • antoine says:

He meant that they were recording on analog audio tape and cut it themselves and wrote what that did on paper to follow up

      • Nncoco says:

It is also a metaphor for the method he details of copying, duplicating and removing parts of a layered B section to make a song.

Yo Ill…i just purchased the online workshop, and your in ATL soon. Does the same discount apply? I would really like to attend.

Pen Paper Scissors = Cut Copy Duplicate….modern DAWs and production tools almost guarantee that you will be using one of these three things extensively in your creative process. It’s like if you’re going to make the B part of and ABC arranged tune, make the B part, cut it all up, duplicate, duplicate, control all, duplicate one more time and cut it up again then flip it  for A and C. :-)

Hey, I was wondering if I could get some help real quick. I love the 128 idea, but my problem is that I have a HUGE sample bank (About 47 GB) and have more than couple hundred kicks and so on. So my question is this: Should I just make as many 128′s as I need? (as is my first thought) Or do I need to take a whole day to organize my library and try to water them down to only the ones I think I’ll use? I’m sure I don’t need to add the Sub kicks and could probably get rid of the ones that aren’t that strong, but even then I’m left with a few hundred. I’m sure this was not exactly thought of ahead of time, as people don’t usually have a sound bank this large, but any advice is useful in this situation. I’ll watch the organizing library lesson of the ill.Methodolgy again and see what I can glean from there. Maybe something will click as I watch it. Sorry to do this, but I’m stuck on this before I can move forward.

  5. Jayreilly79 says:

Make your 128s. The content is not as important as tagging and organizing. I’ve made my 128s with about the same amount myself, with paid and collected samples from the last two years. It’s doable and worth it. The relief and weight off your shoulders from having an amazing live library with all of your tones and elements is gold. Back up that live library off computer and you can take it to anyone else that has live and play your 128s on the spot. Trust ILL…..and yourself, but the 128s are godmode. You’re gonna take all your 128 kicks drop into a drum rack and be like “Rax on rax on rax!”

Hey Ill,  just wanted to let you know i am kicking my self so hard that i didn’t attend your workshop in calgary today. I just watched chapter one of your ill methodology on youtube and the knowledge and advice that you’ve shared is inspiring. Im new to the world of production and have only just begun to mess around on production software and VST’s and have never really attempted to finish a track. This work shop seems amazing and when i got some cash i will for sure buy it. And think i can say thank you and great job to anyone that attends or buys your ill.methodology workshop!
    Keep it up man.
