Can i use this in the regular Ableton 8 or does it only work with the Suite?

This template looks sick! I have a template that use for an apc40 and a launchpad. I am going to download it and try and incorporate it into my own template. I am excited to come up with something new and improved!

    • Anonymous says:

please let me know how it goes. i want to adapt mine for the APC as well. maybe we can work out a deal? (i don’t own an APC)

      • analyze says:

I am working on it now. The template is sweet! I think i can take the apc to a whole new place now adding more elements while at the same time keeping it very simple.

        • Anonymous says:

just got the template myself.. love it so far, but I am new to this and cant map it over to the apc40 very well.. I figured out the outputs so I can atleast cross fade with the apc but I dont know how to get any of these punch ins to work…

once you get it all set up any chance of sending it over? this thing is a blast already cant wait to use it to its full potential.. keep up the great work dylan the site is killer.. love the wallpaper too ha

          • illGATES says:

it’s coming as soon as we can manage. porting it has proved to be a bit sticky. i want to do it in a way that is easy for the end user and doesn’t involve hacking anything… easier said than done, lol

          • Anonymous says:

yah no worries man, I’ll be patient. I was talking to vespers about it and I
now fully understand how complicated it actually is lol. keep up the great

  6. Mills says:

I just got the template and I’m totally lost. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to the part where I need a mixer. I can only get the left side to play anything.(I’m a total newb haha) I’m literally just starting out and I’m on the search for a trigger finger. I have an apc, but Id rather go the trigger finger route as it looks like most dj’s I can think of use one. I understand pretty much everything about how the cue points work and saving .als projects so they are automatically cued up in fours, but is there a way I can use this template without a mixer? I have an mbox mini I’m running as interface. I also do a lot of stuff live like I sing on top of my dubstep tracks and play software synths running massive to make bass whomps live. So also is there a way I can have other tracks on top of right and left? Please help.

    • Anonymous says:

yes, there is. i recommend having midi tracks with instruments to the right of each audio track channel. then you can drag in multi-track clip packs.

i would really really very strongly recommend mixing on an external mixer. it’s better for a huge number of reasons.

that said, it has been a popular request so i may add that functionality in an update.

      • Sombunall says:

Hey I would love to hear your reasons why external mixing is better.  I did a google search and watched your vids and couldn’t find them myself.  Here is what I found so far (and made up in some cases):
        - Less to carry around because venues have DJ mixers (from your vid – though this may be less of an issue once the template works for larger controllers (e.g. APC40, Ohm64) with more controls that could handle the FX and the mixing in one controller)
        - Better sounding analog EQs
        - Less processing power required
        - Less latency

I can think of a few drawbacks:
        - Unable to build muscle memory due to the need to use other people’s mixers at venues
        - May still need to lug a mixer, which can be heavier than a midi controller, if the venue does not have one
        - Can’t record automation in Ableton for later editing/perfecting

        Anything else I’m missing?

Thanks for all of your great work and support!

        • illiam Gates says:

yup. that about sums it up.

the muscle memory thing can still definitely be learned on a hardware mixer. they’re pretty much all the same. plus: when you get to higher levels you get to request mixers.

    • illiam Gates says:

there is an internal mixing update btw. did you join the list when you bought your template? you can also email me and i’ll help you out. if you don’t have a mixer handy it’ll definitely sort you out.

don’t stress homey! we’ll get you sorted.

  7. TimN says:

If I’m interested in the APC version, should I buy the template now, or wait for the update…I mean will it be easy to get the update?

    • Anonymous says:

all users will be automatically updated when the apc 40 and mpd templates are ready. two weeks max :D

  8. Jamie Draper says:

Is a version of this available that will work in ableton 7?

    Thank you! (:

    • Anonymous says:

yes. if you buy the template and then send me an email at thephatconductor at gmail i’ll send you live 7 versions. i have many many templates, lol.

  9. JW says:

OK. I just got it and have played around with it for about half an hour. Very, very slick. Despite the fact that the plumbing for it is fairly complex, it’s *really* easy to use. Definitely a big step up from even the NYE2K9 template. Totally worth it. Great work.

  10. Anonymous says:

So I just finished programming the internal-mixing version you requested :D It’s going to be part of the update with the APC and MPD versions… coming soon! <3 i.G

    • Ftghelix says:

Whats up Mr. Ill Gates Phat Conductor! Would love that APC40 DJ Temp[late version. I got a gig on the 13th of May, would love to use it then. Mightt be a bit too late for that but would like it either way. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!!

  11. Miloryerson says:

Hey I just downloaded the template and I’m a little bit confused. I’m something of a newb, and have a korg padkontrol. as well as a nanokontrol, instead of a trigger finger. I’m wondering how to go about redoing the midi mappings so that I can reassign the knobs and faders to the nanokontrol, and the pads to the padkontrol. Thanks a bunch!

  12. Miloryerson says:

Haha, in retrospect redoing the midi mappings is going to just require a bunch of tinkering (I’m trying to find someone to just trade for a trigger finger, save myself some effort)

But, if you ever get a chance, could you post another video of you or someone using the template? Like I said, I’m a n00b when it comes to a lot of this stuff and I think observing, fly on the wall style, would help me out a lot. I’ve tried to find other pages/videos involving your template and i couldn’t find any. I’m sure you’re a busy man, but a point in the right direction at any time in the future would be super appreciated!

  13. cw says:

  16. Snagged your Guide and your Studio template after watching all of your videos and listening to your songs. You are killin it, thanks for everything – you’ll never know how much you do to demystify this stuff for lovers of music. Thanks :) Can’t wait till the APC40 DJ template comes out, I’ll definitely be picking it up!

    • illiam Gates says:

thanks man! the APC one is ready and free if you bought through the site. email me a reciept and it’s yours. official launch date should be real soon.

      • Sky Lobster says:

Hey ill, I have been waiting eagerly for the APC template. Quick question: does the APC template require an external mixer like the previous? Thanks for your response in advance! Can’t wait.

        • illiam Gates says:

it CAN be used with an external mixer, but i actually spent a lot of time programming a ‘smart mixer’ into the template that makes the mixes sound smoother than a ‘normal’ mixer ever could ;)

  17. Commiesmurf says:

Is there an APC 40 template yet?

    • illiam Gates says:

YUP! free for users who bought it through the site, but it actually came out much different from the deejayus ex machina template so it’s a separate product.

getting the videos ready to launch now, but if you have an APC and want to have a go on the pre-release version then hit me with your reciept via email.

  18. Soullick says:

  20. AlexTheFifth says:

I’m working on porting the template to Novation SLII and Launchpad, I should have something in the next week or two. I’m using Novation’s Automap now, but I’d like to have everything work straight out of the box (plus automap just bugs me for some reason). Great work on the template BTW! I used it for the first time at a show this past friday and it’s a much smoother more natural way to interact with ableton compared with any of the templates i’ve made for myself.

  21. Adisupernova says:

yo ill hope ya good dude how long till the apc template…ive bought the template but cant use it  till the apc comes!! lookin forward to it bruv….peace..adi

    • Daysha says:

From ill.Gates — “The apc40 porting is proving to be quite
difficult for my homey because it’s likely going to involve the IAC midi
bus, which means it would be mac only, and a bit of a pain for the end
users. we are trying to figure out a way around that now. The lasted update includes the PC version, and the internal
mixing version only. there will be another big update when we figure out
the issue with the momentary FX. really hoping it doesn’t have to
involve external midi loops, but it might have to.”

  22. Yaitsdom says:

hey i bought the template. looks great. im using akai mpk/mpd. do u have a template for it?? i know you do for the triggerfinger. holla

  23. I just downloaded this template a few minutes ago. I’m kind of overwhelmed at what I’m seeing on screen. Lol. I don’t have any mapping experience but I’d like to map it to an MPD 24. How would a newbie go about doing that? Point me in the right direction and I’d be glad to do the work.

    • Daysha says:

Hey Marco. Gate’s on tour in Israel, so jumping in to help. Can you send an email to daysha (at) illgates.com. We have a template thats mapped to the MPD 32, so very similar. I’ll get you connected to the studio guys for some help.

  24. is it going to work on a mpd 32 ?

  25. illiam Gates says:

ok! the new templates are programmed. i’m still making the videos for them and everything, but if you are an existing user, have an MPD and want a preview, send your receipt to thephatconductor at gmail and i’ll send you the templates before launch :D

    love ya!

    illiam

  26. Jasonb8582 says:

hey so the apc40 temp can be bought where?

  27. Smighty says:

he ill gates, that template looks amazing. i bought it, but i can’t map the midi for the punching fx on my MPD24. have u any description or a update for that template? please help…

    • illiam Gates says:

the free update will be emailed to all existing users tomorrow.

i changed the punch in system a bit to make it easier for people who want to port it.

if you do end up porting it to the mpd24 and then send us your porting i’ll send you something special ;)

    • Daysha says:

      Hi Smighty,

We have released an update that includes both the MPD32 and MPD24 mappings. Check you inbox for the redemption code. :)

  28. Pineapplemob says:

Hi, I recently purchased the DJ template and was wondering when you are going to release the MPD32 version.

    Cheers.

  29. Zac Duvall says:

Hey iLL, is this MPD24 compatible?

    If it is im sold!

    Keep up the good work

  30. illiam Gates says:

thanks so much for bearing with us during the lengthy and difficult process of porting, creating new templates, testing, and then making the videos. it’s all done now, so enjoy! -i.G

  31. Dave says:

Hey so if I only want the APC-40 one do I want to download the suite first/why?  Thanks Ill, looks ill.

    • Daysha says:

Hi Dave. You can buy APC-40 template individually. The suite would be for those that want a template for all controllers. The Deejay Ex Machina template includes premaps for both Trigger Finger and the MPD32. And the template has been completely reworked specifically for the APC-40 and iPAD to take advantage of features that a unique to these controllers. If you are not planning to experiment with the iPAD or MPD32 in the future, the APC40 is probably the right fit for you.

  32. Sky Makai says:

Anyday you come up w/ an update for the Launchpad… I’ll be stoked!  Mahalo!

    • illiam Gates says:

it would need to be in combo with other controllers, so i don’t think i will.

wouldn’t be too hard to map over tho… just start from the MPD32 or MPD24 templates. they’re the best place to start from as fa as porting goes.

  33. Kevin Lamb says:

Anyone that uses this template alot that might want to answer a few questions for me about it? I bought it but would like to speak to someone who “lives” it.

  34. Ok so before I got the MPD 24 mapping I was planning to sell my MPD24 but now that I have this and it works beautifully, there’s no way I’m selling my MPD! :D Good job on the mapping, Ill Gates and excellent job on the customer support from Daysha and Charlie!

  35. Dave says:

Whats the difference between this and deejayus ex machina? i dunno which to get…

    • Daysha says:

Hi Dave. The Deejayus Ex Machina template is one that has been available for some time and was originally designed to map to the Trigger Finger controller with the ability to be mapped to any controller on the market. Recently, it has been substantially updated to also include pre-mappings to the MPD32 and MPD24 controllers. There are also separate templates that have been completely reworked for APC40 and iPAD users.

The DJ Template Suites includes ALL of the above mentioned templates in one package at a discounted price.

      • Dave says:

So it includes the Deejayus Ex Machina too?

        •  Yes. Deejay Ex Machina for Trigger Finger, MPD32, and MPD24 + IPAD Template + APC40 Template all in one package. :)

          • Dave says:

What about mappings for the AKAI MPD 26 though?

          • The 26 is not included. We’ve had a lot of request for that controller, so possibly in the works. So many controllers out there! But if you are inclined, the template for the 24 can be ported over easily on your own.

          • Tyler says:

actually im having problems i have most of the mappings figured out but i cant find out with that CC13 and CC14 chain selectors are mapped to on the 32 and what controls the big reverse.. these things are not clear to me and im getting very frustrated trying to figure this out

          • illiam Gates says:

cc13 and cc14 control the chain selectors for the multi FX units on their respective sides.

the big reverse is accomplished using the cross fader

            hope that helps!

            d

  36. Dave says:

Hi, does the akai mpd 24 work with internal mixing with the filters?

  37. Polliwobble says:

I have ableton 7 & unfortunately can’t afford 8 right now, would this still run with 7?
This looks like an awesome purchase I would love to get my hands on, but I don’t want to buy it if I don’t know if it’ll run with my setup…
    Thanks!

  38. GigaWhomp says:

The dummy clips did not load or are not in my .zip file. This is causing my MPD24 to map the chain FX selector to the 3rd fader and making the tweak my second fader. When i try to remap them accordingly on the rotary knobs the mapping becomes funky triggering many different things. Any advice or solutions to this problem…could this be because of the missing dummy clips?

    • illiam Gates says:

nope. the dummy clip wav file is completely irrelevant. they will behave normally in the template even with the missing sample. it should be in the zip tho, maybe give it another download if you’re annoyed by the missing sample alert, but otherwise it’s all good. nothing to do with the functionality of the template.

i SUSPECT that you’re on the wrong preset for the MPD24. i believe i used the ‘ableton live’ preset, so switch it over to there and see what happens.

      cheers mate!

      d

  39. paulsb says:

Hey the template looks great, does it work with ableton live intro? thanks

  40. MiRage says:

my cousin are I are wondering if it is possible to have both the APC template up while also using the trigger finger template as we both dj off the same laptop? is it possible to seperate mappings such as get effects on the trigger finger with vu meters, etc on the apc?

  41. Whalle says:

Considering the purchase and was wondering how to go about porting over a template to my mpd26?  That is if there is no template update for the 26…
    Thanks.

  42. sullyboy says:

Having issues playing back what I record within the template.
    Any thoughts?
I’m on a mack laptop with a focusrite card and the internal mixer template.
I also added another controller (ozonic). It works fine while playing.
Just the recorded play back is screwerd. Keeps crashing and taking a long time to reload??

  43. Max Salcedo says:

Hey there, I just bought the APC 40 Template and I must say, it’s pretty sick. Im having trouble however with the activator, the solo/cue, and record arm button. When I press them only the piano template shows up instead of doing the functions they’re sup-post to do. Please help

    • illiam Gates says:

      the piano template?
do you mean you hear piano noises?
if so you may be sending MIDI to the GM soundset inside your operating system. make sure that is turned OFF in the MIDI/Sync preferences

  47. Fearisthenewblack says:

    Your ill.ness,
I purchased the Ill.Methodology workshop and the Studio Template. Both are absolutely BEASTLY in their own right. I’ve seen you’ve been willing to work with folks who’ve purchased some of your products at full price, and maybe give a prorated price on some of the other components. Basically, I just bought an APC40, and while it’s plug-n-play functionality is nice straight out the box, I MUST try your APC40 template. So, I’m wondering if you’d work with me on the apc40 template cost, or if I should just go ahead and buy it at $50. I’m absolutely dying to try this… You’re a genius among geniuses good sir, carry on!

    • Fearisthenewblack says:

I can’t wait!  Ima buy the apc40 template, and if you wanna hook up the complete template suite, well that’d be awesome… ($100 for the studio, $50 for the apc40 = the complete suite $150)  If not, no worries mate, you have definitely earned every penny.

  48. Tron says:

Can you use this template with a controller that does not have aftertouch?

  49. Cody Lanoue says:

If we paid for your course twice now and have got the old templates from you, is there any upgrade to these new ones available? I really want the APC40 and the new mpd32.

  50. Kneptosan says:

Have purchased the DJ template suite, unable to drop supatriga component into components folder under audio.  template loads but barely works, only a couple functions work on my mpd32 and apc 40 ( i have both, so tried both).  Im working with latest version of live 8 and latest mac osX lion.  please help me set this up? ~scrubbing in santa cruz

  51. Bryan_eidel says:

downloades template suite and plugin how do i get i all to work kind of new at this thanks

  52. Bryan_eidel says:

is there a reason i dont get any reply neeed help with this supatrigga thing please

  53. Jay says:

Supa trigga is cool, but it’s a free AU. I wouldn’t depend on it in the real world. But make sure the dl from supa trigga is your AU folder in your HD, not your main folder. PATH for SupaTrigga–> MACHD–>LIBRARY–>AUDIO–>PLUGINS–>COMPONENTS. It is technically not a vst, its an audio unit, AU. I bought this template, stripped it raw, and dummy clipped up some stutter edit. Punch In stutter edits, it’s hot. The best thing (and very much worth it) is the VU meters and smart mixers, but supa trigga isn’t all that. That’s not ILL, and he can’t make templates for us with a $1000 dj vst. Get that apcwillmarshallillgates script, drop it into your script folder, set apc up in prefs. The template works great and even better when you spend the time and customize further. Don’t think you can buy this template, cut some mp3 cue points, and own a stage. It’s gonna take a little time. Take it slow and methodical, this process works flawlessly in ableton.

    • Bluetubes72 says:

Thanks for posting Jay, tried all that and nothing is happening, would like some REAL help from someone at IllGates.  Can someone help me and the other folks who have spent $75 for the suite and can’t get it to work?

  54. Dan says:

I use the APC40 and the template has been working great until recently. For some reason the VU meters on the right and the HPF and LPF knobs for the right set of clips doesnt work. The launch still works for the R main track and R sample track but pretty much everything else doesnt work for the right side (even the volume control slider). Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

Still waiting for the Ohm64 to be ported… will it only be for the rbg or both??? i dont have the rbg :(
i know you are on tour so not expecting anytime soon… is that what you are using for the Church of Bass tour??? see you on thursday

  59. Gentleman Bastard says:

Any word on the porting for the OHM64?

  60. Sartoris says:

Quick question about the APC DJ Template. Whenever I use the push fx (beat repeat, stop, reverse, etc) my ableton grid automatically jumps to where the dummy clips are located. Is there some kind of mapping I can disable so that the push buttons have an audio effect but don’t visually effect ableton? I know I can easily use the bank select to jump back to my clip packs when needed, but I was hoping there was a more efficient set up for this. And thanks for releasing the template….completely changed my DJ flow! You’re the man.
