how many pages is this?
around 20, but much of it is in point form. it’s not like a novel, lol. more like a quick start guide.
i have an older version that is 14 pages long. can i get the updated version as an upgrade?
sure thing. i’ll send over a download link to your inbox.
can you send me a link for the updated version as well mine is only 14 pages.
ian.datz@me.com
Hey Ian. You have the correct version. Originally about 20 pages long, a change in font size is the only difference.
Hmm ya, I just purchased this today and the PDF download was only 14 pages… Should I have gotten a different version? Thanks!
how many pages is this?
it’s about 20, much of it is in note form so it’s pretty dense.

Dude! This guide is so legit! I’m studying psychology at university, and I was stoked to see the Gestalt theories you utilized! Those few sentences opened up a whole new level of my understanding of musical composition. I’m going to recommend this guide to everyone I know.
hee hee… glad someone picked up on that
you should check out a book called ‘this is your brain on music’ if you haven’t already. it’s excellent!
I’m completely new to music production. Will this help me or will I need a bunch of wiki’s to go along with it?
this is exactly what you need then. simplified, streamlined, to the point. it’s like a quick start guide.
is this the same book you offer for your Seminars?
yes it is
Bought this a couple months ago. Wish I had bought it 2 years ago when I started producing. It is hard to conceptualize at first because your brain doesn’t want to believe how much work it is to make good music. Either way, this is definitely worth the money. Thanks Ill Gates, its too bad I can’t make it to your San Francisco workshop, it would have been cool to meet you in person.
you are very welcome
you know, when I first got ableton I had all these ideas flowing. By the time I got just one of them sounding right, I had exhausted myself. If anything can streamline a concise tutorial, then it’s a must for any artist. Cuz sometimes you just wanna be creative, not a technician
i feel you! that’s kinda why i made this
glad you ‘get it’
lots of love
d
Very impressive ebook… got it an hour ago and already read it twice
Just can recommend everybody to get his/her own copy of it!
By the way… may I ask you a question? When you produce dubstep, do you use a synth and make your basses while you are producing or do u use the method that you’re showing in you youtube video, where you have a stack of 100 or so basstones already resampled that you can use any given time for any project?
And if so, do u use the simpler in ableton to modulate them?
Thx
thanks dennis
i use a combination of synths and samplers when i’m writing, depending on what i’m after really.
when i use the sampler 128 technique making basses there are usually several different layers of mid/top basses. i un-macro the sample selectors on them and try different combinations of oscillators until i get the tone i’m after.
Question I got your ebook when you speak of the 7 +/-3. Can you go a little more in detail for me? So are you saying the figure i the drums (kick, snare, hihats, shaker) and then I have 6 other slots? I am a little confused there. I am more in to R&B and Hip Hop. But I love electronic music too. If I gave you an example of a song could you break it down for me as you explain in your ebook? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VY3Anw1BAQ) or (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R7p9ronftU&feature=related).
Hi. Gates is out of the studio for a bit. As soon as he returns from road dogging it, will get you two linked up.
How in depth is the sound design portion? I’m kinda on the fence as to weather this would be beneficial for me. I’m an intermediate producer with a few tracks under my belt, but I could definitely stand to learn more about sound design and arrangement.
Is this very basic, or is there some intermediate level stuff as well?
I’m a relative beginner to production whose dabbled for a couple of years and just started getting serious. After about an hour of trying to find this for free I finally forked out. I read the first page and started getting pissed…I know a lot of this shit. This is what I spend my time thinking about all the fricking time. I want tech tricks. Then I scrolld down…fuck yeh dude…A condensed as shit summary of basically every important little trick and method that we should always start. Can’t wait to have this all at my fingertips. Cheers dude, great investment.
When is the next workshop ???
I’m Ryan just a dedicated fan BLASTIN YOUR SHIT! ALL DAY MAN !This is my life !!!! do a workshop in miami brotha ILL be THERE !!!!! Anyways great job on your accomplishments I love your views on expanding the knowledge !!!! Even in ten-20 years I’m gonna be happy because I got music !and fuck dubstep i always said that ! I love the way some of your songs catch me and i can listen to them over and over THANKS (my special place and never alone so sick bro) all of em’ !
Great ebook, really great tips in here. Of course I bought the book and 5 seconds later noticed the Producer’s Package, which includes the ebook. Any way to get a discount on the Package with proof of receipt for the ebook? Either way thanks, keep up the good work.
AMAZING! I’m learning a lot from your ebook. I was wondering if you have any tips or know where to find info on organizing all my kicks, snares, etc. I’m spending WAY too much time scrolling through and clicking sound after sound after sound and this is obviously destroying my workflow and creativity.
I bet this is a self-promoting post
Buy the methodology series, and he will talk about his system of 128s. That will answer your question
is this for only ableton users or would it benefit a logic user as well?
Hi i bought the workshop video tutorial, great stuff! some of it i knew already, but theres a lot of new info i def need to put into practice, been wasting nearly 10 years already..
is the ebook in all honesty nescessary now that i got the videos, or is it the same info just in written broken down steps? Thanks keep up the good work!
i subscribed to the workshop haven’t found the link to download this EBOOK, urgently need this my time is running out..
