ill.Gates Studio Template

This intense studio template is designed to save you tonnes of time whether sketching out an idea or writing your next hit tune from scratch. It comes with built in drum racks and bass machines and ill.Gates’ famous “128′s” – banks of 128 similar elements stored in Samplers.

This innovative system allows samples to be swapped real-time… as quick as the turn of a knob or the press of a midi key. Why try to force the sounds to get along when you can use 128s? Take advantage of years of programming and workflow philosophy today!

ill.Gate’s Studio Template is in an Ableton format and available for $100.

    Great work Bruv…VERY Inspiring

  3. GUNNER BASS says:

i don’t know what’s more disturbing, the unbelievable amount of time that it must have taken to create this template or the fact that i understood every word of these vids, lol! you sir are an ableton legend.

  4. Adam Alexander says:

this template is legit… after some minor tweaks and almost 3000 samples loaded, i can see producing a track a day as a serious possibility

  5. StRiCtLy AlBeRt says:

Wow… Really excellent thinking. I have used Ableton since version1 for triggering live percussion and improvising live sound design… I waited patiently for “sampler” and proceeded to misunderstand it. My first sampler was akai s20 with foppy drive so i have love for this concept, though I am Foolish… My Live sets have tons of clips sitting there hogging CPU as Gates described. Not anymore. Gates you are beyond a bro for sharing this. APPRECIATED… StRiCtLy AlBeRt
P.S would you recommend sampler for ZenDrum?

    • Anonymous says:

glad to help man! zen drum is that crazy controller thingie, right? i am actually not that familiar with it. give me more info and i’ll answer your question tho!

      • StRiCtLy AlBeRt says:

Its all good man… i spent some time on it and still think Addictive Drums plugin is the best option 4 me.
Though im curious if you have midi flipped the Maschine controller at all? Seems like a really interesting choice for remapping…Also curious if you would ever consider collaboration with live electronic percussion..? i would be extremely DOWN!

  7. PRR says:

I have so many unfinished songs because of my slow work flow. I was looking for something like this and it’s truly a great template… extremely well thought out. One thing to note though, I’m still on XP and my 3.2 gigs of RAM just ain’t cutting it. So I’m going through and trying to simplify the template. I was replacing the template sounds with my own sounds and instead of doing 128 kicks I’m putting in 25 kicks. I was wondering if you had any other suggestions?

    • Daysha says:

Hey PRR. That’s good to note. Big thanks. While the template is being used on both Mac and Windows 7 systems, not versed on limitations on the XP platform. I’m going to have our guys poke around under the hood and see if there any quick-wins to offer you. You may be able to delete some of the unused effects in the template to alleviate issues with processing power, but be sure you don’t save over the original template.

  8. Sky Doherty says:

    Aloha mai, Dylan!

…now that I’ve got your super helpful insights on music production through the ill.Methodology workshop, I’m interested in purchasing this Studio Template.  I’m interested in getting a pack of 128′s, more than I am interested in the Studio Template.  Tell me this: What 128′s, if any, do you include in this?
    Mahalo nui!

    • Daysha says:

Hey Sky. Sorry for the delay. Gates is away so stepping in to help answer questions.  The studio template comes with kicks, snares, subs, and percussion all as 128s…. over 1200 one-shots in WAV format.

  9. Fsbsg says:

    This sucks dont buy it!

  10. Stickybuds says:

This is a really great template… I’ve spent the last hour diving into it and (trying) to figure out all the complexities within… Really excited to figure it all out…

You are the man Dylan. Thanks for this!

  11. august 9 says:

Hi! First thanks a lot for a new way of thinking and a great set!

Don’t know if I’m missing something, but since the send-dials are gone from some of the tracks, how do I use sends on single elements? For instance if I want a snare-hit to be reverbed through a send?

  12. Sky Doherty says:

Very nice!  I made a great track the day I got this.  It includes tonnes of samples and some unseen sampler presets to quickly make custom beats, basslines, melodies, etc, etc, etc… QUICKLY!
    Stoked… thanks, bro!

  13. Matt says:

I don’t produce glitch or dub step, however I have found your tutorials to be very informative. Would you recommend this to someone that might not produce the style of music you make?

    • Daysha says:

      Hi Matt,

The studio template does come with an example bank that uses some of ill.Gate’s sounds, but the design is more indicative of methodology and not for any set genre or beat structure.

  14. Djcosmoore says:

When i try to open up the Demo Tune, it says could not create amp and could not create cabinet, Does this mean i have the wrong version of Ableton?

  15. beeeen says:

YO ILL GATES….i dont know what tha fuck u got goin on haha but you sir are a genius! i purchased this AWESOME studio template and although it was overwhelming when i first opened it, i have discovered the unbelieveable capabilities of this studio template.  NICE WORK MAN!

  16. Allan Grant says:

Great studio template!  Recently bought the complete suite but what really attracted was the 128s.  I’m trying to move them all out into my library, but want to make sure I find them all.  How many are there in total?

Also how do you keep them organized in your library — pull them out individually or keep them grouped (“ie SNARES”)?

    Thanks.

  17. randy r says:

Love this template! However… without adding any additional plugins or anything it seems that it crashes ableton without fail every time I try to save or export.. Nothing else running besides the default provided template.. Any ideas? Bums me out because i keep making sweet things with it but all it does it crash on me :( Thank you – Randy

    • randy r says:

I can confirm that it is indeed the template crashing ableton – multiple machines and multiple versions / instances of ableton … Please advise :(

  18. Mskills27 says:

I LOVE YOUR STUDIO TEMPLATE!!!!!!!!  HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!

  19. Domnasty says:

When i try to add my 128′s in the drum cell and change the receive play to ALL. The Drum cell disappear. Your sample are great and everything but i wanted to use my own 128′s in my production. Is there a way to keep my drum cells?

  20. Hipdeejay says:

Yo man just got back from your LA workshop. Awesome stuff but the only this is I have a LEGIT version of Live 8 not Suite and didn’t realize Sampler was not included.

I’d really like to use 128′s what should I do? A little bummed out right now…

  21. electric jack says:

I’m running live suite 8.09 will this still work?

  22. I wish there was more of an in-depth Tutorial for this thing.. I’m literally switching from Logic to Ableton and I want to figure this thing out… is there anything that can be done?

  23. Mark Zawodny says:

Yo Gates, purchased your templates and love your take on audio arrangement. I did run into an issue with the 128′s. Some of the samples do not play correctly. They play an obnoxious glitch sound instead of playing the full sample. When I check the actual sample in the file browser it plays fine. I have this problem with about 25% of the samples in the 128′s. How do I get these to play normally like the other samples in the rack?

  24. 7TEN says:

Best investment I’ve ever made (besides ableton)!  Really appreciate you sharing this masterful template you created.

  25. Vader1m says:

    so fucking expensive.
is there someone here who have ever read the fucking ableton’s manual???????
he isn’t a magican lord, he just know the function of ableton (and have a nice hat lol )
    100$ for this……….. it’s a joke

    • Joe Black says:

yes, i’ve read the manual, I know the guy who wrote it, so chill out a second and give dylan some respect for putting this together. you’ have no idea what you’re talking about, the attention to detail put into this, all the 128s, the racks you can save to your library since its completely modular. Great for processing, the effects chain on the first bus is absolutely brilliant. I don’t think i’ll ever get tired of playing with the 3 osc bass rack either.

if you can’t appreciate all the time this will save the average person as well as how much they will learn by taking it all apart themselves, and on top of that the incredible amount of sound design that went into this, then you can’t appreciate anything.  Think you can do better?  I’d love to see it, post yourrs up here and we’ll all give it an honest rundown.  Really before you start bitching about something let’s see you do better, I dare you.

  26. Lynchaudio says:

Awesome job man. Thanks for the hard work. There is probably an obvious answer to this, but why the preference of distributing drum sounds using key distribution rather than the chain selector? Thanks again.

  27. Besinb09 says:

I am super new to production but have mad passion for music, havnt gotten too tech into sound design and was wondering where I could get some legit patches to start getting some ideas out, just some sick patches to get started ya dig, any help on this subject would be much appreciated, THANKS!!!

I was just charged the $100 and then nothing happened? No email was sent and nothing telling me what to do next? Just emailed the site and I’m waiting (nervously) for a reply. I was really hoping to use my free time today to dive into this. I hope this is resolved soon….

    Hi,

Does the 128’s use more CPU than using a single sample in
drum rack, if yes do you know a fast method to remove all the unused sample
after I have chosen the good one ?

I don’t like to have 127 unused kicks , massive patch and
    other stuff in my projects.

    Thank you.

  32. Gilad says:

    Hey there.

Just verifying this includes the audio samples before I buy; it is not only the presets, but the actually the audio samples built in. right? how many sounds more or less are included? thanks!

  33. Rick Walker says:

Real nice Ill, still tryin to wrap my head round it , but really dig all the 128′s you’ve put in, bass and drums are all very clean. Would recommend to anyone who doesnt necessarily have the technical knowledge when it comes to setting up return channels, busses etc but want to get musical ideas out quickly. Ill gates has set this thing up so you’re ready to go!

  34. asda says:

LOL this is worth no where near $100, there are better templates out there for free, shame on you

  35. Bubby Graal says:

Hey Dylan (: Just bought this along with your workshop, loving them so much, was curious if you could possibly help me out with something, I can’t ever get the full sound I need. If you’re willing to check it for me, hit me up at turnupthevolume.ah@gmail.com and I’ll email you the file.

  36. giladio says:

Hi there.. Loved the template got out some great tracks out of it, and found it was really simple to develop my own glitch-funk & dubstep style out of them Thanks! Now, can anybody recommend a good mastering studio for bass music? Cheers

  37. Eric says:

    hey template looks dope

do i really need the whole Suite to use this or can I get away with the Standard version and maybe buying a couple extra instruments?

  38. tintala says:

will this be compatible with Live 9?

  39. tintala says:

i would like to know what exactly is included , perhaps a comprehensive list of the sounds that we get for our purchase? thanks

  40. rob says:

Hey ILL, this template sounds amazing by the looks of it and all the reviews.
I am very new into the world of production and Ableton itself. I do like to think i have an ear for music as i play other peoples live, but know i am looking to put my own ideas to paper. Your videos are very inspirational and i will be buying your work shop very soon.

I do know somewhat of the basics of music production and Ableton, but i was wondering if i should be purchasing this template before or after i get more knowledge on things like the drum rack and sampler….ect. I was also wondering if you know of any other tutorials for newer producers to help with the more technical side of these Ableton tools. And maybe something on proper construction on writing a song.

If you could get back to me that would be extreamly appreciated.
    Thanks man.
    Rob
